Embarking on a home renovation journey in Singapore can be both exhilarating and daunting. As a seasoned contractor and homeowner who has navigated through renovation pitfalls firsthand, I understand the importance of making informed decisions when it comes to choosing the right renovation package. In this article, we will go into the complexities of home renovation packages in the Singapore market, offering insights and practical tips for both existing and future homeowners.

Understanding Home Renovation Packages:

Home renovation packages in Singapore typically includes a set range of services and works. It is a good start for gauging price and amount of renovation involved. These packages often include design consultation, project management, material procurement, and construction work. By opting for a renovation package, homeowners can benefit from cost savings, streamlined project management, and access to professional expertise.

Types of Renovation Packages Available

Kitchen cabinet package:

This renovation package mainly consists of kitchen cabinet, countertop, electrical for hood, hood, hob, sink and tap with installation. It can also include hacking and concrete base depending on whether it’s a resale or BTO kitchen cabinet package.

2 Toilets Package:

As the name suggests, the package is more focused on your 2 toilets. Depending on the type of house it’s targeted for, this package can include hacking or just overlay. Most packages offered only focuses more on the tiling works, mainly for overlay. This is so that the package seems more lower priced than what it should generally cost. Even plumbing is not included yet in the lower priced package. So be sure you know what you’re getting and go through the quote with your contractor to understand it more. Never judge a quote solely on price.

Kitchen Package:

Package above is targeted mainly at the kitchen. Either a full hacking or overlay of your kitchen floor and wall tiles, with kitchen cabinets. What you’ll need to take note of is that the kitchen cabinet offered is mainly for 10ft top, and 10ft bottom. Length of actual kitchen cabinet can only be determined after planning. Electrical is another cost consideration when renovating your kitchen. Especially important when your unit is a typical HDB resale.

Kitchen & 2 Toilets Package:

Mainly consists of kitchen package plus 2 toilets package. As explained above.

Whole House Renovation Package:

This is where it gets more tricky. From the name of the package, understandably you would think that it includes the whole house. Well, you’re not wrong. And not 100% right either. Many would offer whole house packages that only includes the hacking and tiling to make the initial price seems low. Some will offer you tiling for the whole house that includes a full renovation or your kitchen and 2 toilets. And even include things like kitchen carpentry, painting, cleaning and minor electrical works. Always know what you are getting. Spend the time going through your quote and also set a realistic budget. Priced low doesn't mean it's not good, priced to high doesn't automatically makes it good.

The above renovation packages can further be broken into:

  1. Resale Renovation Packages
  2. BTO Resale Renovation Packages
  3. BTO Renovation Packages
