The Tanjong Tree Residences completion date HDB gave at the November 2021 launch was the second quarter of 2026, and the project now appears finished: BTO HQ shows it at 100% with an estimated TOP of 1 June 2026.

One catch first. HDB has launched two projects called Tanjong Tree Residences @ Hougang, and 0 of 12 web pages about the project that we checked on 6 October 2026 make that clear. Four of those 12 are launch reports from 2021, written before the second project existed. None of the six we could date to after the February 2024 launch makes it clear either.

Tanjong Tree Residences completion date: a newly handed-over HDB living room with vinyl floor and internal door already fitted, before renovation
Illustration of a newly handed-over HDB living room with floors and doors already in. The November 2021 Tanjong Tree Residences project has 300 4- and 5-room flats in blocks 181A to 182B (HDB sales brochure, 2021).

Key Takeaways

  • Completion: second quarter of 2026 at launch (as reported). BTO HQ shows 100% and an estimated TOP of 1 June 2026.
  • Two projects, one name: blocks 181A, 181B, 182A and 182B are the November 2021 launch; blocks 182C and 183A to 183C are the February 2024 launch.
  • Handed over: floors, internal doors and bathroom fittings are in. Kitchen cabinets, a wardrobe and a water heater are not on HDB's list.
  • Right scope: a move-in package from S$7,390 (4-room) or S$7,490 (5-room), not a bare-unit package.
  • First year: report defects to the Building Service Centre, which runs for a year from the first keys (HDB precinct toolkit), before renovation starts.

If you have just collected your keys, you are probably walking the flat with a roll of masking tape, marking defects and wondering what to renovate first. One new BTO owner put it this way on a renovation forum: "We did a preliminary round of inspection of the unit and it appears to have to [sic] quite a lot of defects compared to some of our friends' BTOs which we have visited" (Hometrust forum, 2022). This guide reads HDB's own sales brochure line by line. It shows what HDB handed over, what it did not, and which renovation scope fits.

When Is the Tanjong Tree Residences Completion Date?

HDB estimated completion in the second quarter of 2026 when it launched the project in November 2021. The Business Times reported at launch that "these flats are estimated to be ready in just under 4 years, in the second quarter of 2026" (The Business Times, 2021). 99.co and SingSaver, both citing HDB, carried the same quarter. SingSaver also listed an estimated waiting time of 47 months (99.co, 2021; SingSaver, 2021).

We could not retrieve HDB's own November 2021 launch release on 6 October 2026, so we cite the reports that quoted it.

Two later signs point to the flats being finished. BTO HQ's project page records an estimated TOP of 1 June 2026 and progress at 100% (BTO HQ). And HDB's MyNiceHome site now lists a precinct toolkit for Tanjong Tree Residences @ Hougang under its latest roadshows. That toolkit is the pack written for owners settling into a new flat (HDB MyNiceHome).

HDB does not publish one key date for the whole project. Its FAQ is plain about it: "The PCD is an estimate and the actual completion date will depend on the construction progress. You will be invited to collect keys to your flat when the block is completed." For your own unit, the authority is your appointment letter and HDB's 'Check Application for New Flat Purchase' e-Service.

If the terms PCD and TOP are blurring together, our guide to the probable completion date versus TOP separates them, and the wider HDB BTO completion date tracker lists the other 2026 projects. For other projects, see our separate pages on the Sin Ming Residences completion date and the Parc Meadow completion date.

Two HDB Projects Share One Name: Which One Did You Buy?

HDB used the name Tanjong Tree Residences @ Hougang twice, along the same street. The November 2021 project is the one already built. The February 2024 project next to it is a separate contract with different flat types. Its completion is still ahead. Your block number tells you which one is yours.

Sources: HDB sales brochures for November 2021 (we could not find it on HDB's own site, so this is a mirror) and February 2024, and HDB's February 2024 launch table. Counted from a February 2024 launch, 39 months points to around mid-2027. That is our arithmetic, not an HDB date.

The rest of this guide is about the November 2021 project. If your block is 182C or one of the 183 blocks, your flat is still being built. Price your renovation from your own brochure when your keys are near, not from this page.

What We Found When We Checked 12 Pages About This Project

On 6 October 2026 we listed the publishers that came up for five searches about Tanjong Tree Residences. We then read the 12 pages we could fetch that actually describe the project. 0 of 12 make clear that HDB has launched two projects under this name. That count needs one caveat. Four of the 12 are launch reports from November and December 2021, written before the second project existed, so they could not have mentioned it. We then checked the saved copy of each of the other eight for a publish or update date, or for details only the February 2024 launch has. Six were written or updated after that launch, and none of those six tells the reader that a second project shares the name. The last two show no date we could verify, so they are left out of that count. That is how a February 2024 floor plan can end up in front of a November 2021 owner.

The other counts, all out of the same 12 pages:

  • 7 state a completion date or waiting time.
  • 2 mix up facts between the two launches. One gives the project 860 units in seven blocks of 13 to 16 storeys, with 2-room Flexi to 5-room flats and a June 2026 TOP. That matches neither brochure. Another shows the February 2024 brochure under the status "Completed".
  • 1 mentions that the flats arrive with floors, doors and bathroom fittings already in.

That last count matters most for your wallet. A renovation quotation built for an empty flat will price flooring and doors you already own. The fix takes ten seconds. Check your block number against the table above, then read the brochure for your launch, not the first spec page a search gives you.

How we counted is set out under Method and Limits at the end.

What Arrives Installed in a November 2021 Flat?

HDB built this project with prefabricated modules. The brochure says what that means for you: "To boost construction productivity, Tanjong Tree Residences @ Hougang will be built using the Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) method. The flats will come with full floor finishes, internal doors, and sanitary fittings."

Finishes and fittings HDB provides

For the 4- and 5-room flats, the brochure lists these as provided:

  • Vinyl strip flooring in the living and dining area and the bedrooms
  • Floor tiles in the bathrooms, the household shelter, the kitchen and service yard, and the balcony where there is one
  • Wall tiles in the bathrooms and the kitchen
  • Internal doors for the bedrooms and folding doors for the bathrooms
  • A wash basin with tap mixer, a shower set with bath or shower mixer, and a water closet suite

The general specification lists the doors by location: a laminated timber entrance door with a metal gate, laminated UPVC bedroom doors, laminated UPVC folding doors for the bathrooms, a metal household shelter door, and an aluminium-framed glass door to the service yard or balcony. It also lists quality locksets and a clothes drying rack.

Floor areas and balconies

Sizes are on the floor plans: about 95 sqm for a 4-room flat, and about 113 or 116 sqm for the two 5-room layouts. Each figure includes the air-con ledge. Some 4- and 5-room units have a balcony. Reporting at launch put the split at 172 four-room and 128 five-room flats (99.co, 2021).

Services that are not on the plan

Read one note in the November 2021 brochure before any carpenter measures up: "The details of services in a flat, e.g. gas pipes, water pipes, sanitary stacks, electrical wiring, television points, data points, etc. are not indicated on the plans." The sanitary stacks are exposed, at the service yard or the air-con ledge. Measure on site, not from the PDF.

What Is Not on the Handover List?

Kitchen cabinets do not appear anywhere in the November 2021 brochure. Neither does a wardrobe or a water heater. The specification provides only concealed wiring for a water heater point, not the heater itself. So your kitchen arrives tiled, with no cabinets on HDB's list.

Why there was nothing to opt out of

The word "optional" does not appear once in the November 2021 brochure's 55 pages. There was no flooring or door package to opt out of. The February 2024 brochure for the newer project uses the word 13 times, mostly for an Optional Component Scheme that it offers to elderly buyers of 2-room Flexi flats.

That makes your scope short and predictable. You are not replacing floors or doors. You are adding a kitchen, a water heater, storage and paint. One caution we will not guess past: your Agreement for Lease records what your own unit was sold with. Read it before you brief anybody.

Which Renovation Package Fits a Tanjong Tree Flat?

Our view: a move-in package fits this project, and a bare-unit package does not. Renovation packages for new BTO flats come in two tiers. A bare-unit package assumes the floors are missing and starts by laying screed and flooring. A move-in package assumes the floors and doors are in and starts from the kitchen. Our published prices, checked on our package pages on 6 October 2026, line up like this:

Flat Package Price Fit at Tanjong Tree (Nov 2021)
4-room 4rm Move-In BTO Package, Most Popular S$7,390 Fits: kitchen, heater, paint
4-room 4rm Move-In BTO Package, Premium S$8,090 Fits
4-room 4rm Bare Unit BTO Package, Most Popular (Vinyl) S$14,990 No: prices flooring you already have
5-room 5rm Move-In BTO Package, Most Popular S$7,490 Fits: kitchen, heater, paint
5-room 5rm Move-In BTO Package, Premium S$8,190 Fits
5-room 5rm Bare Unit BTO Package, Most Popular (Vinyl) S$15,990 No: prices flooring you already have
Either Kitchen Cabinet BTO Package, Most Popular S$5,490 Fits if you only want the kitchen

Full inclusions are on the 4-room BTO renovation packages and 5-room BTO renovation packages pages.

What the move-in package adds

The Most Popular move-in package fills the gap the brochure leaves. It builds 10 feet of top and bottom kitchen cabinets with a quartz countertop, installs a hood, a 2-burner hob, a sink and tap, supplies and connects a 15-litre storage heater tank, and paints the whole flat (up to 4 colours on the 4-room, 5 on the 5-room).

On a bare-unit package (prices on the same package pages), the same 4-room flat costs S$7,600 more and the 5-room S$8,500 more, mostly for floor screed and vinyl that HDB already laid. Wardrobes are in neither HDB's list nor this package scope. If you need them, budget for them separately.

Asking us to look at your flat

If you would like us to look at your flat, message us on WhatsApp with your block number, flat type and the date you got your keys. We will arrange a site look or a call. Have the brochure floor plan ready, plus any quotation you already hold.

For the wider estate, our 4-room BTO renovation in Hougang and 5-room BTO renovation in Hougang guides cover Hougang as a whole. The same PPVC reading applies at Keat Hong Grange in Choa Chu Kang.

What Should You Do in the First Year After Keys?

Report defects before your contractor starts, because the Building Service Centre clock is already running. HDB's precinct toolkit for this project says "The BSC will commence operation once the first keys are issued and will be in operation for a year." To submit a rectification request, scan the QR code in your welcome kit or on the notice on your kitchen wall (HDB precinct toolkit).

  1. Walk the flat and log defects first. The toolkit's own chart sends a fitting HDB provided to the Building Service Centre while your flat is still covered by the Defects Liability Period. Our reading of that chart: a replacement fitting your contractor installs is not one HDB provided, so let the BSC fix what is wrong before anything is replaced. Our BTO key collection checklist covers what to look for.
  2. Hire from HDB's list. The toolkit tells owners to "only engage contractors listed in the Directory of Renovation Contractors (DRC)" and to "engage licensed workers for windows, electrical and sanitary works". RCS holds HDB Licence HB-11-5877Z.
  3. Get the permits before work starts. The toolkit says to "check your renovation permits and ensure that works comply with HDB's guidelines". Our HDB renovation permit guide explains which works need one; your contractor submits it.
  4. Keep to the noise hours. Your neighbours are new to the block too. See our guide to HDB drilling and renovation hours.
  5. Plan the kitchen around what is really there. Measure the exposed stacks and the service points on site, then size the cabinets.

Construction may still be going on around you. The toolkit warns that "construction works for common areas may still be ongoing", with hoardings inside the site.

The Household Shelter Is Off Limits

The brochure is direct: "The Household Shelter is designed for use as civil defence shelter. The walls, ceiling, floor and door of the Household Shelter shall not be hacked, drilled, altered or removed." That rules out shelving drilled into its walls and swapping its metal door. The safe way to use the room is free-standing storage that touches nothing. A contractor who offers to drill it has told you how they treat the rest of the rules.

Still Deciding What to Do First?

If you are not ready to hire anyone yet, that is a reasonable place to be with new keys. Ai-Deal is our own AI assistant for Singapore renovation questions, currently in beta. You can use ai-deal.ai to work through HDB rules, budget and the order of work before you take any quotation.

Tanjong Tree Residences FAQ

How do I check my Tanjong Tree Residences completion date?

According to HDB, its e-Service called 'Check Application for New Flat Purchase' carries the latest probable completion date for your own flat. HDB invites each owner to collect keys when their block is completed, so the appointment letter you receive is the date that counts. Published trackers, ours included, are snapshots and can lag behind HDB's own record.

Is Tanjong Tree Residences completed?

The November 2021 project appears to be. BTO HQ shows it at 100% with an estimated TOP of 1 June 2026, and HDB has published its precinct toolkit for owners. The February 2024 project with the same name is a separate contract; HDB's launch table gave it an estimated waiting time of 39 months.

Which Tanjong Tree Residences project is my block in?

Check your block number. Blocks 181A, 181B, 182A and 182B are the November 2021 project, with 4- and 5-room flats. Blocks 182C, 183A, 183B and 183C are the February 2024 project, which sold 2-room Flexi, 3-room and 4-room flats. Each block list comes from that launch's HDB sales brochure.

How long is the MOP at Tanjong Tree Residences?

Five years for the November 2021 project. HDB's precinct toolkit states: "The MOP for your flat at Tanjong Tree Residences@ Hougang is 5 years." The Minimum Occupation Period is the time you must physically live in the flat, and HDB's e-Service lets you look up the MOP for your own unit.

Method

Frame: on 6 October 2026 we ran five fixed searches ("tanjong tree residences", "tanjong tree residences completion date", "tanjong tree residences hougang bto", "tanjong tree residences floor plan", "tanjong tree residences key collection") through a self-hosted SearXNG metasearch engine and took up to 20 results each. We added four more pages from a web search the same day and kept one page per publisher. Government sites, HDB brochure copies, social and video sites and our own site were excluded. That left 26 publishers, frozen before any page was read.

Collection: each page was fetched once with a named user-agent that respects robots.txt, with one retry. Seven could not be fetched (blocked, rate-limited, server error, missing or empty) and seven did not describe the project, leaving 12.

Each of the 12 was hand-read and coded for four outcomes: does it distinguish the two launches; does it mention the prefinished floors, doors and fittings; does it state a completion date or waiting time; does it mix facts between the launches. The brochure counts come from text extracted from both HDB PDFs.

Limits

This describes 12 pages found through one metasearch engine on one day, not every page about the project and not Google's exact results. One page per publisher was read, and other pages on the same site may say more. One person coded every page. Seven pages could not be fetched and are left out rather than counted as negatives. Pages that load their text with JavaScript may have been missed. The count says nothing about the quality of any publisher's other work.
